Panama Hats by Majesa - Granada Trilby Cuenca Mens Hat
Our Genuine Panama hats are woven in Cuenca, Ecuador, where depending on the fineness of the weave, each hat will take longer for the weaver to make.
Cuenca weave - herringbone in design, using a little more straw, and marginally heavier than Brisa Panamas (few milligrammes!).
The grades or 'references' refer to the finesse of the weave – so the higher the number, the smaller the weave size, and therefore the Panama will have taken longer to make, using more straw and many more hours!
Our 'standard' Cuenca 3/5 Panama takes approximately 2-3 days to weave.

Looking After Your Panama Hat:
- Avoid getting it wet or being rained on, as it will lose its' shape.
- To preserve, avoid crushing or scrunching hat, as it may break natural fibres.
- Do not fold this Panama hat.
Cleaning And Reshaping Your Panama Hat:
- Firstly, try to remove any dirt with a dry cloth from the Panama hat.
- If there are more stubborn sections, use a warm damp cloth or facial wipe to gently remove remainder.
- Avoid any unnecessary rubbing as this may cause damage to the natural fibres on the Panama hat.
- To reshape a hat that may have lost some shape, steam on a low setting, then gently dry with a hairdryer.
- The brim can be reshaped by placing a damp cloth on the hat, and iron steaming on a low setting. The iron should never come in direct contact with the natural fibres of the Panama hat.
- Avoid all solvents, soap, or cleaning agents.
This is a Genuine Panama Hat.

Reference / Grading system
This is the most common method used, although it can differ among Ecuadorean suppliers. At the Panama Hat Company we use an average grade eg 3/5, ref 8/10 etc and not a specific grade number.
